Follow where the light meets the retina.
A magnified reduced-eye model. The eye and distant objects use different display scales; the computed light paths stay connected to the controls.
Your choices change the light
What will you bring into focus?
Explore how the eye adjusts
The retina distance is measured from this simplified model’s optical plane. It is not the anatomical length of a person’s eye.

A small change in sharpness
Illustrative sharpness preview. Learning model, not an eye test or prescription.
Look. Change. Explain.
One world. Different focus.
The shape of the eye, the distance of an object and the lenses all work together.
About this teaching model
This lab follows small-angle light rays through a simplified eye and glasses. It leaves out many details of real eyes. Use it to explore optical ideas; it cannot diagnose eyesight or choose anyone’s real glasses.
Make the invisible visible
Lenses change a light path.
A minus lens spreads incoming light. A plus lens brings it together. The eye then focuses that changed light.
Go deeper: powers and distances
Find the difference
Same light. Different eyes.
Compare a relaxed eye with myopia, hyperopia and reduced accommodation. A near object adds a new challenge.
